Dr. Jifei Zhang
Dr Jifei Zhang, a Visiting Academic funded by China Scholarship Council, joined Academic Units Geography and Environment of the University in August 2017. Prior to joining the Unit, he worked at the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment (IMHE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) as an Assistant Professor. He once served the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) as a Livelihood Specialist in 2014. Over the past six years, Dr Zhang has been involved in the formulation and implementation of more than sixteen research projects and development programmes from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, local governments and ICIMOD. Along with research work, he has developed a keen interest in discovering the features, rules and driving mechanism of social, economic changes in rural and urban environment by field survey, statistical analysis and GIS spatial methods. He is also interested in describing how specific features of the social and physical environment affect the behaviour of rural migrations in fragile landscapes, such as the South-western Mountain Area (SWMA) of China, and even the Hindu Kush Himalayan Region (HKHR) of south Asia. His research findings have been published in international and national academic journals on various topics.
Dr Bin Xu
Xubin, is Academic visitor within Social Sciences: Economics at the University of Southampton, Professor of Economics in Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics, Vice-dean of Institute of Jiangxi Economic Development, mainly focus on the research area in industrial organization, technological innovation and resource industry. Recent years, he wrote some papers in these areas, 60 of them published in state core degree journals in China. He took charge of several research projects offered by and approved by the national and provincial government.
Prof Xiaobing Feng
Xiaobing Feng conducts her research in complex system lab at fudan university and teaches finance in shanghai university of foreign trade and economics. Professor Feng will be visiting the Centre for Research on Ageing to research on pension reforms and Tibetan happiness index. Her research is financed by Shanghai Education Committee.
Dr Yang Yanan

Dr Yang Yanan is an assistant Professor of Hubei University of Economics who specializes in innovation policy and innovation governance. Dr Yang is visiting the Department of Politics and International Relations to collaborate with colleagues on research focusing on innovation governance of local governments in United Kingdom and China. Dr Yang is supported by a scholarship from the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC).
Dr Xiaoting LIU

Dr Xiaoting LIU is an Associate Professor of Social Welfare at Zhejiang University and specialises in social policy issues and ageing. Dr LIU will be visiting the Centre for Research on Ageing to collaborate with colleagues on research focussing on the key issue of social support and health outcomes of older people living alone in China. Dr LIU is supported by a scholarship from the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC).
