人口与健康

中国正在经历的快速经济发展和人口结构变动给人口与健康研究同时带来挑战和机遇。当今中国面临三个重要挑战,它们错综复杂并且相互依存:大量人口从农村涌向城市,加速了城镇化进程;快速增加的老年人口的健康和照料问题;不断扩大的贫富差距。目前中国城市人口占总人口的一半,估计在本世纪中叶将增加至四分之三。到2050年,半数中国人年龄将在50岁以上。这意味着中国的人口正在向老年化迈进,但同时年轻成年人所占的比重也很高。此外,中产阶级人口增长飞快,目前估计超过8亿。充裕的可支配收入和生活方式改变导致糖尿病和高血压高发。这种现象在富裕和贫困人群包括流动人口中都常见,受影响人数预计未来10年还会显著增加。脑卒中,缺血性心脏疾病,慢性肺部疾病和癌症已经成为导致死亡的主要原因。年轻人在性与生殖健康方面的危险行为问题突出。此外,空气和水污染以及气候变化带来的健康问题,以及各类新旧流感病毒持续威胁着中国人的健康。总之,中国的人口年龄性别结构的变化将决定中国未来非传染性和传染性疾病负担。人口与健康研究小组将与中国的合作伙伴机构密切合作,从多学科视角研究这些挑战。小组的研究人员来自南安普敦大学全球卫生,人口,贫困与政策研究中心,以及新成立的南安普敦大学全球健康研究所。

Sabu Padmadas

Sabu Padmadas教授是英国南安普顿大学社会统计和人口系的人口学与国际健康的教授。

他的研究兴趣主要在人口学、流行病学和公共健康方面。具体的方向包括:避孕动力学,生殖健康和儿童健康,营养学(妇女和儿童),人口预测,生命过程流行病学和人口健康政策。

Sabu Padmadas教授负责了联合国人口基金机构在中国的研究:对于大规模的生殖健康和计划生育项目的监测和评价(与James Brown一起)。他们已完成了第四次(1998-2002)和第五次国家项目(2003-2005)的评价,目前正致力于第六次(2006-2010)的评价。这个项目设于南安普顿统计科学研究中心,并和隶属于国家人口和计划生育委员会的中国人口发展研究中心和中国疾病预防控制中心,妇幼保健中心合作(均下属于中国卫生部)。
